Luke Whaanga is a powerhouse voice in Aotearoa’s music scene — a born performer whose soulful sound and magnetic stage presence have captivated audiences across the motu. Hailing from Lower Hutt, Wellington, currently living in Rotorua. Luke proudly carries the legacy of his Ngāti Kahungunu ki Rongomaiwahine and Ngāti Porou whakapapa, alongside his Scottish heritage. His music is a celebration of identity, unity, and the rhythms that connect us all.
From his early days writing songs in high school to fronting the chart-topping reggae band Tomorrow People, Luke’s journey has been defined by passion, authenticity, and a deep love for performing. His music career began in 2004 when he was a finalist in the first season of NZ Idol, capturing national attention with his charming smile, powerhouse vocals and stage presence. One of his earliest songs, "Irie Music", was written while he was still in high school and later became a breakout hit for Tomorrow People, alongside "Soul Jah Feeling" — both helping to shape the sound of Aotearoa’s modern reggae movement.
After a five-year hiatus, Luke returned to the spotlight with his highly anticipated solo album Home — a genre-blending project that showcases his evolution as an artist. The album features standout tracks like:
